Custom Artillery Officer's Sword

The soldier pictured below appears to be holding a similarly curved artillery sword.  The middle mount has slipped a little on the subject sword.

This sword is fitted with an early style blade, but was likely assembled slightly before or during the Civil War period.  There are at least three of this type of sword  that I am aware of.  One is in a collection on the East Coast, one appears in the "oldswords.com" data base; and this one (also in the "oldswords data base).  The triple wire grip is simply expertly done.  The bluing on the blade is also in fine condition.  This is one of those swords that is difficult to define due to the combination of periods.  It is, however, a period piece and assembled as such; not a modern composite.
