Preserving the History of Antique American Swords

"Save in the defense of my State, I never want to draw my sword again."

                   - General Robert E. Lee

Two young foot officers with their M1850 Foot Officer's swords and red officer's sashes

The M1850 Foot Officer's Sword was carried by the rank of Lieutenant through Captain.  Once the rank of Major was attained, the M1850 Staff & Field Officer's sword was used.  This model, like the Staff & Field Officer's sword was copied from the French M1845 infantry sword.

Please see the M1850 Staff & Field Officer's page for differences in the swords.
